Africa is the 2nd largest continent in the world. After Asia, it also has the most people (estimated at about 900+ million). The continent is made up of 53 countries (including all the islands). In all, there are 61 territories.

• The largest country in Africa is Sudan; the smallest is Seychelles.
• Africa is considered by many scientist to be the place where humans originated.
• Hannibal marched his army and elephants all the way from Carthage (present-day Tunisia), across the Alps, and into Italy to engage the Romans in war.
