North America, as big as she is, covers less than 5% of the Earth's surface. It is the 3rd largest continent after Asia and Africa, but is ranked #4 in population. The latest estimates put her at about 524 million inhabitants. Though many folks normally think of only the United States, Canada and Mexico when it comes to North America, the fact is that the continent is also comprised of many other countries from the Caribbean.

Quick facts about North America:

  • Amerigo Vespucci is credited for naming America (both North and South America).
  • The Appalachian Mountains stretch from Canada all the way to Alabama in the U.S.
  • Mexico once occupied what is now Texas, California and Arizona.
