Brief History. This is a tough one so bear with me. Ok, so what's in a name? It would seem as if what and where Palestine actually is is subject to much debate. In broad terms it can refer to what was once ancient Palestine - which, by the way, not only included modern-day Israel, but parts of Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. As it refers to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, it can mean more the areas of the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. Again, this is subject to much contention. Nonetheless, the State of Palestine, as it is sometimes called, is recognized by dozens of countries throughout the world. In biblical history and prior to the development of the kingdoms of Judah and Israel, the coastal areas were controlled by the Philistines. However, an ethnic connection is unclear. One thing is certain though... and that is that the current conflict in the region is very real and will time and the resolutions of brave, peaceful people to reach an end.
