Brief History. Connecticut was discovered by the Dutch navigator Adriean Block. First fort was built in 1633 near present-day Hartford. However, fort was soon lost to English Puritans form the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Connecticut played an important role in the Revolutionary War serving as the Continental Army's major supplier. Today, Connecticut is famous by its oldest U.S. newspaper - Hartford Courant, Yale University and Long Island Sound.
